Christmas 2026 · Bambu Lab compare

P2S · X2D · H2D + AMS · Wentzville family use (Teddy RC, DIY, Cub Scouts)

Lean: X2D AMS Combo

Chris’s “X2D is the sweet spot” holds up for this family’s mix: Teddy’s RC parts (supports + PETG/TPU), outdoor/garden DIY that wants ASA, and Cub Scout multi-color without jumping to H-series size or price. Same desk footprint as P2S; ~$150 more than P2S Combo for active 65 °C chamber and a real second nozzle.

Fallback: P2S Combo if Christmas is hard-capped near $800–900 and year-1 stays PLA/PETG. Skip H2D unless a >256 mm one-piece print or laser workshop is a real goal.

Where each wins / loses

X2D

Recommended

~$649 printer · ~$899 AMS Combo

  • Wins: dual nozzle (cleaner supports), 65 °C chamber, filtration, toolhead AI cam, eng. materials.
  • Loses: $150 over P2S Combo; slightly more complex; dual-mode bed shrinks a bit.

P2S

Value

~$549 printer · ~$749 AMS Combo

  • Wins: price, simple single nozzle, hardened CF-ready, plenty for PLA toys + PETG brackets.
  • Loses: no active chamber; support/multi-material = AMS purge only.

H2D

Overkill (for now)

~$1,549 printer · ~$1,749 AMS Combo

  • Wins: ~350 mm volume, 350 °C, dual hotend, optional laser.
  • Loses: 31 kg, big footprint, ~2× Christmas spend vs X2D Combo.

AMS pairing

  • Buy the AMS 2 Pro Combo with the printer (4 spools + drying).
  • Add AMS HT (~$139) later only if nylon / hot-dry CF becomes regular.
  • Second AMS 2 Pro only if multi-color becomes a weekly habit.
